Fall fun in north Georgia! "One trip to the mountains of north Georgia, and it's easy to understand why so many people return, season after season, year after year. My husband, young children and I were most recently in the Big Canoe area to visit our family and to indulge in all of our favorite activities that we have come to associate with the arrival of fall. Our first order of business: the annual pilgrimage to Burt’s Pumpkin Farm, where we took part in animated hay rides and chose the pumpkin that would become our seasonal Jack-O’-Lantern. From there, we wound our way through the colorful foliage to R&A Orchards, where our kids delighted in picking many varieties of apples on their very own - a fantastic photo-op, indeed! Inside the apple house, we devoured mouth-watering peanut brittle, apple bread and, of course, fresh apple cider! To round out our afternoon, we stopped for a memorable excursion at the Amicalola Deer Park, a rehabilitation center for orphaned or injured animals. Their newest addition, a young buffalo named “Tank,” lives alongside the deer and llamas that ate from our hands as we strolled through the large, gated pastures. On our drive back to Big Canoe, we indulged in a leisurely hike at the foot of the Appalachian Trail, in Amicalola Falls State Park. Exhausted, we unanimously opted to postpone the exciting challenge of Cagle Dairy's elaborate corn maize for another day! If this all sounds like too much to squeeze into one afternoon, believe me, it makes for a full day. However, one altogether unique aspect of the stunning area in and around the north Georgia mountains is the array of activities within a short drive. Our sojourn was made complete by the relaxation that can only come from evenings in the company of family, replete with a cool mountain breeze and the crackle of a fire in the fireplace!" |
